When I was growing up in the late 1960′s and 1970′s, our lifestyle seemed to be much slower paced. We didn’t have micro wave ovens, mobile phones, lap top computers, etc to allow us to interface immediately, we had to wait! These days are a lot more fast paced, even to the point of fast food outlets on almost every street corner, ‘for our convenience’. This got me thinking about Christmas and how for our fast paced lifestyle we have even got into the habit of writing Christmas with the abbreviation ‘Xmas’. Now don’t get me wrong, not that there is anything inherently wrong with shortening words but if we shorten the words often enough does it take the meaning of the word away or even change the meaning? We need to keep Christ in Christmas because He is the reason for the season.
Here is a quick acronym for ‘Why we should keep Christ in Christmas’:
C. H. R. I. S. T.
C – Captive = With Christ in Christmas we are no longer captive to our sin but free, cleansed and washed from it
Romans 6:18; 8:1-2; 2 Corinthians 5:17
H – Hope= With Christ in Christmas we now have hope, a certainty of tomorrow in the Kingdom of God
Ephesians 2:11-13; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
R – Redemption = With Christ in Christmas we are redeemed from sin once and for all
Titus 2:11-15a); Hebrews 9:11-15
I – Impossible = With Christ in Christmas what is impossible for man, IS possible with God
S – Separation = With Christ in Christmas we are no longer separated from God the Father, the tree of life or His throne
Revelation 2:7; Hebrews 4:14-16
T – Triumph = With Christ in Christmas we are now victorious and triumphant over ourselves, sin and Satan
Colossians 2:13-15; 1 Corinthians 15:57
Therefore, this Christmas let us be mindful of the reason for the season, Christ our Lord and even in this fast paced lifestyle in which we live, let us remember to keep Christ in Christmas!
Have a ‘God’ day and a very Christ filled Christmas
